What is Akasaka Hikawa Shrine?

History
Akasaka Hikawa Shrine was founded in the Heian period (951). It was originally enshrined in a place called Hitotsugi Village in the Toshima District of Musashi Province. During the Edo period, the shrine garnered strong faith from the people, and when Tokugawa Yoshimune became shogun, he oversaw the relocation and renovation of the shrine to its current location. A majestic shrine building was constructed, and the relocation took place in 1730.

Kyu Shrine
It is said that Kyu Shrine was formed by merging nine shrines that were once located within the grounds of Akasaka Hikawa Shrine: Tenso Shrine, Kasuga Shrine, Kashima Shrine, Hachiman Shrine, Suwa Shrine, Akiba Shrine, Itsukushima Shrine, Konpira Shrine, and Sai Shrine. Each of these shrines serves as a place for remote worship.
