As one of the most significant power spots in Katsushika Ward, it attracts many worshippers. Additionally, there is sacred water at the temple, said to have been used for the first bath of “Tora-san,” the beloved character from the movie series “It’s Tough Being a Man.”

History
Shibamata Taishakuten is a Nichiren Buddhist temple founded in the early Edo period, specifically in the 6th year of the Kan’ei era (1629), by two monks named “Zenna-in Nichitada” and “Daikyo-in Nichiei.” It became widely known as “Shibamata Taishakuten” towards the end of the 18th century during the tenure of the 9th head priest, Nikkyo. On the annual Koshin Day, which is also the day of Taishakuten, many people have visited the temple since ancient times.

The Goshuin of Shibamata Taishakuten
You can receive Goshuin from Shibamata Taishakuten. The Goshuin prominently features the characters ‘帝釈天’ (Taishakuten). Additionally, you can obtain various other stamps, including limited edition Goshuin and a castle stamp with the inscription ‘喜見城’ (Kikenjo).
Kikenjo（喜見城）
It is said to be the residence of Taishakuten, decorated with cloisonné, and likened to paradise where celestial beings play and frolic in the garden.
You can receive Goshuin inside the temple after your visit.

Visiting Report on Shibamata Taishakuten！！
Starting the Visit！！ There was sacred water. Let’s purify ourselves here before starting the visit. There was a statue of Kannon Bodhisattva. This statue was dedicated during the Muromachi period by Fuji Chikatoki, who was the chief priest of Fuji Sengen Taisha Shrine at that time.
There was a “Pine Tree of Auspicious Dragon.” It is named for its lively appearance, resembling a dragon with its head reaching towards the sky and its tail extending westward, symbolizing its ascent to the heavens.
Pine Tree of Auspicious Dragon（瑞龍のマツ）
According to the legend, when the founding monk Nichiei visited Shibamata, he discovered a magnificent pine tree with flourishing branches and a sacred spring bubbling beneath it. This discovery led him to establish a hermitage at this location, marking the beginning of the temple’s history. The tree that Nichiei saw during this visit is said to be the “Pine Tree of Auspicious Dragon.”
There were various types of omikuji (fortune slips). Among them, the “Tora-san Omikuji” is a unique fortune slip that can only be drawn here. Talismans were being sold in vending machines…! Of course, you can also get them at the bestowing office, but it’s definitely unique to buy them from a vending machine!
